Police discovered more than 5000 euros in cash in a piece of luggage.
The rucksack was on a regional train that runs between Hamm and Düsseldorf, as the officials said.
Accordingly, train attendants found the backpack on Friday at the height of Essen and handed it over to the police.
To their own "astonishment", the officers found cash in addition to various items.
At first the owner could not be reached.
At the beginning of the week, she answered the phone and picked up the backpack from the Federal Police in Münster.
The 35-year-old was "very relieved" and thanked her.
At first she didn't even notice that she left the backpack on the train, the report said.
