(ANSA) - SYDNEY, OCTOBER 13 - Two teenagers have been accused of causing the death of 14 kangaroos, including two puppies, on the east coast of Australia.

The two boys were arrested after locals discovered the animal bodies near Batemans Bay, about a four-hour drive south of Sydney, police said.

"It is a tragic and senseless act that has left an indelible mark on our Mid South Coast volunteers and residents," wildlife rescue organization Wires wrote on Facebook.

Police said they found the dead animals in separate areas near the city, on the beach.

One of the rescuers managed to save a third puppy that was quickly recovering, which was given the name of 'Hope'.

"It took about two hours to warm it up and to see it give back signs of life.

The two 17-year-olds will be tried by a juvenile court on November 22, on charges of beating the animals to death. (ANSA).
