Two Australians have to stand trial for a fatal attack on 14 kangaroos.
The two 17-year-olds were charged and will have to face a trial in a juvenile court at the end of November, the police said.
The kangaroos, including two young, were discovered over the weekend in two different locations near the coastal town of Batemans Bay in the south-east of the country.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the Teeanger had been summoned for "ruthless beating and killing."
It is not known how the police discovered the suspects.
The »Herald« only said that the public had been asked for information and that, after further investigations, the young people had been arrested.
"Tragic and senseless act"
The animal welfare organization Wires condemned the act as a "tragic and senseless act".
A baby kangaroo survived the attack.
"When she got here, she was as good as dead," said Wires representative Janelle Renes to ABC television about the female animal.
In the meantime, however, she is "surprisingly incredibly well."
The animals killed were eastern gray kangaroos.
They are mainly native to the east and south of Australia.
The males are up to 1.60 meters tall and weigh up to 60 kilograms.
