When it comes to music, Ed Sheeran doesn't fool anyone.
What the pop star tackles will also be successful.
In his private life, on the other hand, the Briton does not always have such a happy hand - for example, when proposing marriage to his current wife Cherry Seaborn.
It almost went quite wrong, as Sheeran revealed on the Swedish-Norwegian talk show »Skavlan«.
Accordingly, the 31-year-old had set up a pergola in the garden, where he wanted to ask for his wife's hand at sunset and wine.
But it rained heavily all day.
Waiting a day would not have been possible either.
The problem: The date of the planned application was engraved on the ring.
“I kept saying to her, 'We should go for a walk,' to which she replied 'No'.
'Are you sure you don't want to go out?'
And time is ticking, ”Sheeran says.
Long silence
Finally the opportunity did arise.
He knelt down for the application.
“I asked her, 'Do you want to marry me?' And she replied, 'Are you fucking kidding?'
In the end, Cherry said yes - although, according to Sheeran, her parents weren't married when she was a kid, so he wasn't sure she'd even accept.
The couple got married in January 2019 in a small chapel "with almost no one there," says Sheeran: "My wedding was a very small affair."
There was homemade curry to eat.
"We were in bed at midnight," Sheeran said.
The singer knows Cherry Seaborn from school, but it should have sparked between the two much later.
Initially, the couple had a long-distance relationship as they lived in the United States.
In 2016, however, she returned to the UK.
In September 2020, the couple announced the birth of their first daughter, who was given the curious name Lyra Antarctica, on social media.
