The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, was in conversation with Angela Merkel in Berlin.
The head of state arrived at the chancellery shortly after 10. Yesterday he met the German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
"This is the time to restart. We are laying the foundations for the future of the EU which must be stronger and more cohesive", said Mattarella, speaking in Berlin, in the premises of the Italian embassy in Germany.
Today we celebrate "the very strong understanding between Italy and Germany with the firm determination to continue it. The dynamic energies of our two countries - at all levels, from central to local authorities - are aimed at the crucial economic and social recovery. This is the time of the restart ".
