The Old Jaffa area is one of the places in Israel that time seems to have stopped reigning in. An area that is all in the atmosphere of yesteryear, a 'pension' atmosphere that will take you back to the 1980s of old Israel. The charm of this place takes us back, to the days of innocence, whether it is old restaurants, impressive delicacies to the new restaurants that bring gourmet diners from Jaffa and the whole area.

The Japanese Lounge Chef Dean Shoshani's Something Lounge is located in the heart of Jaffa, in a 19th-century building overlooking the Mediterranean Sea through the magnificent rainbow windows. The place, located in an ancient building with high ceilings and decorated arches, includes not only a restaurant but also a fashion store with super brands and artistic details for sale.

Already at the entrance, the owners of the place show the desire to infuse a feeling and atmosphere of entertainment in one of the metropolises of the world capitals, the existing dress code adds interest and exclusivity.

Why choose if you can taste everything

Omkasa, this is a Japanese delicious meal that presents a wide variety of different flavors and cooking techniques. As part of the meal, each dish you receive is based solely on the chef's choice (which is also the literal Hebrew meaning of the word omkasa) - there is no menu in place, no set dishes and no one really knows what he is going to eat today. The chef of the place determines the dishes that day, after he 'finds out' which raw materials were provided for him and which fish arrived at the restaurant.

As mentioned, diners are served daily new dishes selected by the chef at lunch. Among other things, you can taste dishes of smoked and aged fish. Instead of presenting a Japanese menu, it would have made sense to have a selection of dishes with nice fish but not in Mr. Something like that according to Dean Shoshani the head chef. When we asked to get into the thickness of the beam we realized that as soon as the restaurant gets fresh fish it undergoes an aging process, which removes the liquids of the sea from it, which gives it a pronounced taste without the “aroma of the sea” as from raw fish.

Other dishes you can find at the place are a traditional Japanese mushroom salad, served with lion mane mushrooms and black pearl (black pearl).

Eggplant in miso kogi, a classic dish with miso that is specially imported from Japan for this dish only.

Japanese curry cooked in Rasks axis, with Jerusalem artichoke and eggplant in an exclusive pickling technique for the curry dish - this is a curry puree that the Japanese adopted for the kitchen and changed the base to suit Japanese cuisine.

It is made each time from a different fish axis, this week for example the axis is made from palmida and rasque (a rare fish and one of the best we have in the country).

It is important to note that apart from Omkasa, there is an option for the familiar type of Peaks-Manio (closed menu), which is suitable for those who do not want to go to a traditional Japanese evening and are just looking for good sushi.

At this meal the portions are larger and served in the center of a table.

The prestigious Japanese lounge of Mr.

Something Lounge provides all who come to it with a combination of leisure, lifestyle and an unforgettable culinary experience.

Bon apetite.
