No one had seen her coming.
Yet "Squid Game" has become a phenomenon.
Even more than "Lupine" or "The Chronicles of Bridgerton".
On Wednesday, Netflix announced that the nine-episode South Korean drama had recorded the best ever start of a series on the platform.
111 million households around the world viewed all or part of this original creation, in the 17 days following its release.
A real phenomenon since, until now, no series of the video giant has managed to reach the hundred million mark in less than a month. The previous record dates back to late 2020, with the launch of the “Bridgerton Chronicles”. Far behind "Squid Game" since, at the time, 82 million households in the world had been seduced by this historic American series during the first thirty days of availability for subscribers. And the South Korean series has not said its last word since it is still at the top of the Netflix rankings in 74 countries, especially in France.
This incredible box of "Squid Game" is in line with the successes of non-English content in recent months.
Because before this fiction where indebted people play childish games and can earn money or die, other series had already seduced viewers.
Starting with the Frenchwoman "Lupine" with Omar Sy (76 million for the first part) or the Spanish "La Casa de Papel", whose fourth season had been viewed in 65 million homes.
