New evacuations in Southern California where a gigantic fire threatens structures and roads, forcing the main highway, the US 101, to close for almost 24 hours. The Guardian reports.
At least 200 firefighters are busy taming the Alisal fire, which has already destroyed over 8,000 acres along the coast of Santa Barbara.
The flames have been raging since Monday and have approached the ocean.
"There is a lot of flammable material thrown here and there in the area where the burning started," says Andrew Madsen, a Los Padres official, according to whom there have been no natural fires in the area for decades.
Hundreds of houses threatened by flames,with the evacuations already taken in the Refugio Canyon and El Capitan state park areas.
Strong wind prevents planes from taking action.
