The Arbitral Tribunal in The Hague officially closed the case of the marines, Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, who opposed Italy and India for the death of two fishermen mistaken for pirates off the Kerala coast in 2012.
The definitive closure of the case was decided, according to what is learned, after India has obtained assurances from the Italian side that the judicial proceedings against the two Navy Riflemen are underway in Italy, envisaged by the July 2020 sentence pronounced by the same Arbitration Court.
In fact, the sentence attributed the jurisdiction of the Enrica Lexie case to the Italian judiciary, thus removing the two soldiers from the judgment of the Indian courts.
