Eight-year-old Julia was released from the hospital the day after she was rescued in the border area of the Czech Republic.

The girl from the greater Berlin area had disappeared during a family outing; a Czech forester discovered her on Tuesday.

According to the police headquarters in Regensburg, the child was then taken to a clinic in Germany.

"Except for a slight scratch on the leg, the child was uninjured," said police spokesman Florian Beck.

The hypothermic girl was slowly warmed up again.

On Wednesday at noon, Julia was able to leave the hospital in good health, accompanied by family members.

Initial surveys suggest that Julia covered several kilometers on foot in the two days in the forest.

She said that she slept on a meadow in tall grass at night and saw animals such as deer, foxes and a wild boar, the police spokesman said.

Because she was afraid in the forest at night, she did not draw attention to herself.

According to investigators, the girl looked for the trail, but did not find it.

1400 people involved in the search

The disappearance of the girl had kept the emergency services in suspense since Sunday.

Around 1400 people have been looking for the student since their parents reported missing.

The forester finally discovered the severely hypothermic but uninjured girl in an impassable piece of forest.

She was "completely exhausted in a bush and did not attract attention," the police said.

The family let it be known that they were "overjoyed and expressly thank all the helpers".

The parents climbed to the top of Mount Čerchov on Sunday with Julia, her brother and a cousin.

The adults had lost sight of the children and called the rescue workers.

At first they only found the brother and the cousin.
