In the case of the spectacular jewel theft in Dresden, the public prosecutor had brought charges against six suspects.

Now the Dresden Regional Court has overturned an arrest warrant against one of the men.

The regional court, unlike the district court and the public prosecutor's office, does not currently see any urgent suspicions against the 23-year-old, according to a press release from the public prosecutor's office.

However, the man will not be released, as a spokesman for the prosecution said on Thursday.

He is currently serving a multi-year youth sentence because of his involvement in the theft of gold coins from the Bode Museum in Berlin in 2017.

The men are urgently suspected of having broken into the Historic Green Vault in November 2019 and stealing 21 pieces of jewelry from the Saxon state treasure.

The items set with a total of more than 4,300 individual diamonds and brilliant-cut diamonds have an insurance value of at least 113.8 million euros. During the break-in, the alleged perpetrators are said to have broken into the famous Saxon treasury museum in the castle. They are said to have punched holes in a display case with an ax and tore out the jewels fastened in it. Since then, there has been no trace of the jewelry.

The public prosecutor's office is now examining whether to lodge a complaint against the decision. The 23-year-old remains suspect in connection with the coup in Dresden. The evidence against him is "in fact and legal terms" more complex than that of the other accused. The Dresden Higher Regional Court ordered three of them to remain in custody. Another defendant's complaint was dismissed as unfounded. A 24-year-old is also in juvenile detention for stealing gold coins.

The investigators are convinced that the young men from a well-known large family of Arab origin in Berlin, the Rammo clan, were directly involved in the break-in of the Saxon treasury museum on November 25, 2019.

They are accused of serious gang theft, arson and particularly serious arson.

The investigations into other participants and the whereabouts of the art treasures are ongoing.
