(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 14 - Sandro Botticelli's Infernal Voragine, the plaster version of the monumental and famous Porta dell'Inferno by Auguste Rodin (cast model in scale 1: 1) and the Final Judgment by Beato Angelico.

They are among the masterpieces of 'Inferno', the first large and spectacular monster that investigates the mental and symbolic map of the first song of the Divine Comedy, telling of its iconographic fortune over the centuries.

Inaugurated on 13 October by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, at the Scuderie del Quirinale, built on the occasion of the seventh centenary of Dante Alighieri's death, open to the public from 15 October to 9 January 2022, 'Inferno' is a journey from the Middle Ages to the present day, through 232 opered'arte, on loan from 87 large museums, public collections and prestigious Italian and international private collections.

"Inferno is a powerful exhibition and is not afraid to question the anguish of modernity with rooms dedicated to Hell on Earth" explained Mario De Simoni, president and CEO of Ales - Scuderie del Quirinale who, after the great success of the exhibition on Raphael , are back with this ambitious event that required a huge organizational effort, made more difficult during Covid. Conceived by the historian of art and thought Jean Clair who is also the curator with his wife Laura Bossi 'Inferno' (Electa catalog) takes us into unexpected territories through the power of images and the depth of ideas up to 'Riveder Le Stelle'.

"Whether expressed in medieval miniatures, in Renaissance and Baroque art, in the torments of the soul depicted in romantic and symbolist canvases, or in modern psychiatric interpretations of the mystery of Evil, the belief in a possible goal of damnation has proved extraordinarily persistent," Clair explained. 'meeting attended by Matteo Lafranconi, director of the Quirinale Stables and with the director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt in the room who lent Andrea Commodi's precious' Fall of the angeliribelli'.
