Facebook strengthens the rules against bullying and intimidation: introduces new rules to increase the protection of people from mass harassment and strengthens protection for public figures.
The announcement comes on the occasion of the National Day for the Prevention and Awareness of Bullying in the United States.
In particular, as Antigone Davis, Facebook's Global Head of Safety explains in a post, the "coordinated actions of mass harassment that target individuals at greater risk of offline harm, such as victims of tragedies or government dissidents, will be removed. if the content alone does not violate our policies. " Objectionable content will be deleted on profiles and direct messages.
Regarding public figures such as politicians, journalists, celebrities or creators, sexual content aimed at these people will be removed; derogatory retouched images; attacks through negative physical descriptions that are tagged, mentioned or posted on the public figure's account, degrading content. "Becoming a public figure is not always a choice - explains Davis - and this fame can increase the risk of bullying and harassment, particularly if the person comes from an underrepresented community, including women, people of color or the LGBTQ community" .
Facebook says that in updating these regulations it has worked with experts including advocates of free speech and women's safety groups, content creators and public figures and that it "will continue to work with experts and listen to community members to ensure that our platforms remain secure. "
