IN IMAGES - 75 years after the end of the historic international military tribunal, the Izieu Memorial Museum (Ain) is presenting on Friday a fully restored version of an unpublished photographic album of this historic audience.

It is a precious historical and memorial document which has just been unearthed.

A photographic album of the Nuremberg trial, fully restored, will be presented on Friday during a conference organized on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of the trial, at the Izieu memorial museum (Ain) and broadcast live on the website of the memorial.

Taken from oblivion, this historic document is made up of 121 photos taken behind the scenes and during the hearings of the Nuremberg Tribunal, from November 1945 to October 1946. Bound in leather, this album was put together by the American organizers of the trial and offered to the eight magistrates who made up the court responsible for judging, in the Bavarian city of Nuremberg, the highest Nazi officials.

Among these judges: the French Henri Donnedieu de Vabres.

This photo album belonged to him.

His relatives found him in his family home in the Cévennes.

Disappeared from the memoirs, this booklet was autographed by the seven other American, English and Soviet judges.

We can notably see Hermann Göring hiding his face in front of the photographers in the courtroom, then surprised in the middle of a meal between two sessions alongside Hitler's designated successor Karl Dönitz and the “

banker

” of the Reich Walther Funk .

The family of magistrate Donnedieu de Vabres chose to entrust its restoration to the Izieu memorial museum, with financial assistance from the United States consulate in Lyon.

A very symbolic donation insofar as the Izieu Memorial Museum was the ultimate refuge for 44 Jewish children and their six educators, rounded up and deported in April 1944 by order of the Gestapo of Lyon, then commanded by Klaus Barbie.
