"Squid Game", the Korean television series that conquered the world, and was a resounding success in Israel as well, was recently announced as the most watched television series in Netflix history. The plot tells of hundreds of people with financial difficulties, who are given a mysterious opportunity to participate in a children's games tournament, only in a violent, creepy and especially fateful version.

Now, the game is coming to life, while the Korean Cultural Center in Abu Dhabi will host a real “squid game” this week. However, there will be some significant differences: on the one hand, the winners will not return home with the first prize of $ 38 million. On the other hand, the losers will not lose their lives, but will simply be swept out of the game and become spectators at it. Indeed, the games that will be held in Abu Dhabi will be the same as those presented in the series.

"The games featured in the Netflix series are popular with children in Korea, and remind Korean adults of nostalgic childhood memories," said Nam Chan-wu, director of the Center for Korean Culture in Abu Dhabi.

"However, similar traditional games are played by children here as well, in Abu Dhabi."

Get ready: salted fish and game of marbles

Nam Chan-wu added that he hopes that the popularity of the "squid game" around the world will bring with it an opportunity to spread other aspects of Korean culture as well.

For example, the Angol (the unique alphabet of the Korean language), martial arts taekwondo, other TV dramas and Korean movies.

The Travel and Leisure website reports that participants in the real version of "The Squid Game" will participate in four of the games featured in the series, including two that went viral in tic-tac-toe.

The games will be "Salted Fish", "Delonga" (retrieving the shapes engraved in cookies), the game of marbles and the game of fugues, in the paper version.

But before you rush to book a plane ticket to Abu Dhabi, you should know that only 30 participants will get to play the game, and it is only open to residents of the UAE.

Those who choose to participate will wear the pink clothes worn by the guards in the series.
