The survival thriller series "Squid Game" unexpectedly became a Netflix hit.
The creator of the series now reveals how things stand for the second season.
The fans are screaming for a sequel - but currently nothing seems to be planned. The question arises: Is the Netflix hit in danger - or rather the second season of “Squid Game” *? The success of the fictional game show came as surprising to Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series' creator, as it did to viewers and even Netflix. "Squid Game" could even be more successful than "Bridgerton" and the best Netflix series of all time. If so, it would mean that more than 82 million viewers have seen the South Korean series within a month of its launch.
So it should be clear that Netflix would like to immediately follow up on the success.
Still, the streaming service doesn't seem to be putting any pressure on Hwang Dong-hyuk.
In an interview with the US magazine Vulture, Bela Bajara, Global TV Chief at Netflix, explains: “
We're trying to find the right structure for him
.” After all, he still has other projects that have priority.
But how does the creator himself feel about a continuation?
"Squid Game": That is why schools are now sounding the alarm and threatening with penalties
"Squid Game" creators for a second season
Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed in an interview with the US magazine
: “I don't have any well-defined plans for 'Squid Game 2'.
Just thinking about it is pretty tiring
. ”But don't panic, that doesn't mean the end of another season.
At least he added, “But if I did it, I certainly wouldn't do it alone.
I would fall back on a team of writers and several experienced directors. ”Hwang Dong-hyuk put so much work into the first season that he now seems to need a break from it - and Netflix seems to give him that too.
“Squid Game”: Viewers criticize one of the games - “How is that a fair competition?”
He told the British
newspaper The Times
that a possible sequel would put the guards in the foreground.
In the course of this, the "Squid Game" viewers would also learn more about the game master.
The screenwriter is now devoting himself to other projects.
So fans have to be patient
Or they devote themselves to other series and films that are at least as binge-worthy as “Squid Game” *.
