  • Which mattress to choose for a slatted base?

We spend almost a third of our life sleeping, so choosing the right bedding is essential for our well-being. Are you thinking of changing your mattress and already have a slatted base? It is normal to ask yourself which one to choose. Unfortunately, there is no universal answer, quite simply because slatted bases can accommodate almost all types of mattresses (polyurethane foam, memory foam, latex or springs). The choice of one mattress more than another therefore depends above all on the comfort you are looking for and your slatted base. Some models of box springs (such as box springs made from solid wood) are particularly firm. In this case, it is interesting to rebalance comfort by opting for a soft and soft mattress.

For example, people who enjoy sleeping on a firm bed can opt for a foam or latex mattress.

These models, associated with a slatted base, have the advantage of maintaining the spine while hugging the curves of your body.

The back is thus ideally maintained at night.

On the other hand, if you are looking for tonic support, the ideal is to bet on a spring mattress.

The latter, in addition to being naturally ventilated, evenly distributes the pressure exerted by the body on the bed, while optimizing sleeping independence.

It therefore also goes very well with a slatted base.

How to choose your slatted base?

As explained previously, there are different kinds of slatted bases:

    • Box springs with visible slats

    • The slatted box springs.

The exposed slatted base has great ventilation capacities.

It is therefore generally popular with people with allergies.

The sleeping comfort is also at the rendezvous.

In this category, we also speak of passive and active slatted base.

The passive slatted base consists of a frame to which wooden slats are fixed.

    These are motionless.

The active slatted base, on the other hand, has articulated slats, adapting to your position and your movements during sleep.

For its part, the slatted box spring is covered with a fabric to give it more style.

It offers good firmness and even body support, but is less ventilated than the exposed slatted base.

The slats can also be of different qualities.

Fir, pine or beech are the most common materials.

Note that the more slats there are, the more support and sleeping independence are accentuated.

A minimum of 16 slats is necessary to benefit from sufficient comfort.

Too few, these can lead to back pain and impair the quality of sleep.

Finally, to optimize your sleeping comfort and protect both the mattress and the box spring, you can complete your purchases with other accessories, such as box spring legs, mattress toppers or even mattress pads.
