(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 16 - The Texas Senate has voted for a law that obliges transgender students to compete in teams that correspond to the gender with which they were registered at birth, and not the one they identify with.
The controversial measure had already been passed by the Chamber of the State Assembly and has now landed on the desk of Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
Introducing a ban on transgenders from competing in sports or women's teams is one of the long-standing crusades carried out by former President Donald Trump.
The associations for the defense of civil rights define the discriminatory law.
