(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 17 - The painter Achille Perilli, considered one of the masters of Italian abstract art of the twentieth century, died in Orvieto at the age of 94 at the Santa Maria della Stella hospital.
He was born in Rome on January 28, 1927. With Piero Dorazio, Giovanni Guerrini, Renzo Vespignani and others he was one of the founders of the Gruppo Arte Sociale (Gas).
In 1947 he had participated in the drafting of the Forma 1 manifesto for the defense of abstract art.
Numerous personal exhibitions and retrospectives have been dedicated to Perilli in Italy and abroad.
The Venice Biennale in '69 reserved a room for his works, characterized by a lively and brilliant chromatism.
