Around three months after the flood disaster, the sunken passenger ship "Moornixe" is back on land in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
According to the ship's owner Heinz Hülsmann, it was lifted out of the water onto a semi-trailer with a 450-tonne crane early on Sunday morning.
"Everything went wonderfully." The recovery was completed within about an hour.
A semi-trailer then transported the approximately 18-meter-long wreck to a specialist company.
There, experts should get an idea of the ship that was swept away by a tree during the Ruhr flood in July and pulled under water at a weir.
It was later discovered in an old arm of the Ruhr.
Dents and cracks
At first glance, there were a lot of bumps and some cracks to be seen, the hull was deformed, said Hülsmann.
“The upper deck is dented.” The owner hopes the excursion boat can be repaired.
With the rescue on Sunday night, an elaborate rescue operation came to an end: Last week, firefighters and a rescue company brought the mermaid back to the surface of the water in a multi-day operation.
For this purpose, inflatable lifting bags were attached to the ship, which pumped it upwards.
The Moornixe already has an eventful history behind it: Since 1933 she was on the road as »Baldeney« on the Baldeneysee in Essen, later she drove as »Mixe« on the Moselle and as »Moornixe« in Wiesmoor in East Frisia.
In 2018, Hülsmann brought her back to the Ruhr area.
