Candace Bushnell has a split relationship with the influential TV series "Sex and the City", for which she once created the template. She is "great," but also gives women the wrong message.

"Sex and the City" sparked a hype in the late 1990s.

Certainly because it was still unusual at the time for TV characters to talk so openly about their love life.

A central part of the plot was the on / off relationship between Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mr. Big (Chris Noth).

But this is one reason why the author Candace Bushnell finds today that the format does not convey the right message for women.

The series is based on a column that Bushnell once wrote for the New York Observer.

"The reality is that looking for a man in the long run may not be the best economic choice," she said in an interview with the New York Post.

"It's a great show"

Men could be "in many ways very dangerous to women," she continued.

“The TV show and the message didn't end up being very feminist.” In the 1990s, Bushnell wrote the column “Sex and the City,” which was later published as a book.

Bushnell does not fundamentally reject the series: "It's a great show, it's really funny." However, she has the feeling that some fans are too oriented towards the fictional lives of the characters.

One shouldn't take away from the series that the goal is to end up with Mr. Big.

She does not yet know what a recently announced new edition of the series should be, said the 62-year-old.

But she will "definitely" watch the show.

In January the streaming service HBO Max announced the new edition of the cult series (1998-2004) about New York women and their love adventures - with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as leading actresses and executive producers on board.

On the other hand, Kim Cattrall alias Samantha Jones is missing.
