Because he did not appear in court, an arrest warrant was issued against pop singer Michael Wendler. Now he can travel unmolested to his home again. Meanwhile, the trial against him continues.

There is no longer an arrest warrant for the controversial pop singer Michael Wendler.

This was lifted on September 22, after the 49-year-old's lawyer filed a complaint against the so-called arrest warrant, said a spokesman for the Duisburg Regional Court.

Wendler did not appear as a defendant in a trial before the district court in Dinslaken in July, which is why he should be brought to trial with the arrest warrant.

According to the spokesman, the regional court saw this as "not proportionate" because the singer was represented by his lawyer on site.

For the clarification, it was therefore not necessary for Wendler to appear in court himself.

The process against Wendler continues, however, said the spokesman.

With the arrest warrant, the German authorities would have had the opportunity to arrest Wendler.

However, it was unclear whether this would even be enforced in the USA, where he currently lives.

Wendler wants to come to Germany

The »Bild« told Wendler that he would now like to return to Germany: »Yes - I'm coming back to Germany! Not with a place of residence, it remains the USA, ”he announced. He wanted to continue making music: "I am very sure that in the coming year 2022 there will be every reason to hope to be able to work fully musically again." He did not name specific plans for a trip to Germany.

The public prosecutor's office had accused the pop singer of having assisted in thwarting the foreclosure. Because of this, a penalty order had been issued, against which Wendler, however, lodged an objection. According to the charge in the penalty order, author's shares in more than 150 music titles are said to have been overwritten in order to protect the assets of the original rights holder from enforcement. The original copyright holder is said to have transferred the word mark "Michael Wendler" to him with the same intention.

Wendler caused a scandal in October 2020 because he accused the federal government of "gross and serious violations of the constitution" in the corona crisis.

He also accused television stations - including his local channel RTL at the time - of being "synchronized".

RTL distanced itself at the time and called Wendler a "conspiracy theorist".
