AU: Telephone sick leave extended again - it is possible with these symptoms

A sick leave by telephone is currently still possible: The special corona regulation has been extended again.

Good news for all insured persons: it is still possible to call sick leave * for mild respiratory diseases.

The Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) has extended the special corona regulation, which initially applied until the end of September, by another three months.

Telephone sick leave should relieve medical practices and reduce contacts

"In view of the

the coronavirus and the fact that vaccination of the population is progressing too slowly, the special rules that have been extended again are intended to continue to help avoid contacts and minimize potential risks of infection," said the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA).

In addition, in view of the upcoming cold and flu season, the medical practices should be relieved.

For this reason, telephone sick leave was introduced in 2020.

Sick leave by phone: This is the process

Certain requirements apply to telephone sick leave.

This is how it works:

• A sick leave by telephone is only possible with

  mild cold symptoms

   such as runny nose, cough or sore throat.

• In addition, the doctor must convince himself of the patient's state of health in a personal telephone call.

  A physical exam should still be performed if the doctor deems it necessary.

• The 

  certificate of

  incapacity for work (AU)

   can be issued for 

  up to seven days

  .

• If the infection lasts longer, a 

  follow-up

   certificate can also be issued by telephone for a further seven calendar days.
