(ANSA) - BEIJING, 18 OCT - What had been considered a hypersonic missile tested by China was actually a space vehicle.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said this in response to what Financial Times reported yesterday on a suspected test carried out last August that alarmed US intelligence.
Zhao said it was "a routine test aimed at verifying the reusable technology of a space vehicle, a very important experiment to reduce its costs".
And that it can provide, Zhao added in the daily briefing, "a convenient and economical way to a peaceful use of space".
