Italy won two out of five categories of the first edition of the Earthshot Prize last night
, an initiative wanted by Prince William to reward the best solutions to the climate crisis every year

one million pounds
(1.17 million euros) to each of the five categories ('Protect and restore nature', 'Clean the air', ' Revive the oceans', 'Build a waste-free world' and 'Restore our climate'). The funds will contribute to the development of the selected projects.
Italy took the podium of
'Build a world without waste' with the city of Milan and of 'Restore our climate' with the company Enapter, which has its headquarters in Crespina Lorenzana (Pisa).
Co-founded by Vaitea Cowan, Enapter produces highly efficient modular hydrogen generators, a "green technology" - the Earthshot Prize website reads - that "could change the way we power our world."
The Municipality of Milan was awarded for its neighborhood hubs created to combat food waste and at the same time give support to people in need.
"Milan is the first major city to apply a policy against food waste at city level that includes public bodies, food banks, charities, NGOs, universities and private companies. And it is working - says the motivation of the award -. Today the the city has three Food Waste Hubs, each of which recovers about 130 tons of food per year or 350 kg per day, equivalent to about 260,000 meals. "

won the award in the category 'Protect and restore nature', the
Indian company Takachar
was awarded the 'Award Clear the Air' and Coral Life project

) for regeneration of coral reefs went the prize in the 'Revive the oceans' category.
