(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 18 - In Varese, Davide Galimberti, a trade unionist, supported by the center-left and the 5-star movement, has reached 53.78% of the votes, while Matteo Bianchi, a center-right candidate, is at 46.22%.
The stronghold, for 10 years led by the current president of Lombardy Attilio Fontana from 2006 to 2016, remains at the helm of the center for the second time.
"We did our best - says Matteo Bianchi, commenting on the result - I have nothing to reproach myself, an extra month of electoral campaign would have been better, but let's accept the result and organize ourselves for a healthy opposition".
