These personalities want France to support the return to the territory of children of French combatants, before winter.

Sophia Aram, Audrey Fleurot, Philippe Torreton or even Marie Desplechin… This Tuesday, some fifty personalities launched an awareness campaign about the children of French jihadists in Syria, in order to put pressure on the French authorities, with the aim of obtain their repatriation.

So each of these celebrities decided to sponsor a child living in Roj camp in northeastern Syria, currently guarded by Kurdish forces.

They also sent letters to the Elysee and to the various ministries, to demand their return to France.

"The living conditions are already atrocious in the camp and the approach of winter terrorizes us," actress Sophia Aram, one of the organizers of this new mobilization, told the press.

Each personality received photos, sound recordings and other details of these children detained in this camp which is home to tens of thousands of displaced people, including families of foreign jihadists from the Islamic State group.

"Ghost children"

The goal is to "embody them, to bring them back, and to tell them that another France exists than that which refuses to repatriate them", summarizes Sophia Aram.

For lawyer Marie Dosé, co-organizer of this awareness campaign, "France must stop relying on its policy of return on a case-by-case basis".

She should imitate, according to her, Germany and Denmark who repatriated in a large humanitarian operation on October 7, 11 women, who had joined the Islamic State group, and 37 children.

So far, 35 children, mostly orphans, have been repatriated by France.

Paris believes that adults should be tried on the spot.

For those still in Syria, the authorities "will not be able to turn them into ghost children," said Sophia Aram.
