2021-10-20T20:28:35.872Z

As energy prices rise unprecedentedly, the foundation calls on the government to ensure minimum electricity service.

With the rise in prices, the question of fuel poverty arises.

It is on this point that the Abbé Pierre Foundation warns, campaigning for a minimum electricity service even in the event of an outage.

This minimum service guaranteed by law could result in maintaining a minimum power of 1000 watts in a home even if the latter is under the influence of a power cut, explains the Foundation in an article in Le

Parisien on

Wednesday.

It is therefore addressing the government for the establishment of such a system framed by law.

This power of 1000 watts allows

"enough to heat a meal, turn on the light to do homework and keep a fridge running but not (to) operate a water heater or a washing machine"

, explains Christophe Robert daily. , general delegate of the foundation.

"Soaring gas and electricity prices will throw thousands of homes into difficult situations"

, he warns.

Energy check and "tariff shield"

Energy prices have in fact been experiencing an unprecedented surge in recent months.

At the beginning of October, the price of gas had thus jumped by 59% for French households since January 1 (66% over one year) and should increase by another 30% by the end of the year.

In addition to the energy check of 100 euros for the most modest households and which will be debated later in the budget discussion, the National Assembly voted last Thursday the government promise of a

"tariff shield"

.

It consists of a freeze on regulated gas prices and a limitation to 4% of the regulated electricity tariff at the start of 2022.
