Refueling can be very expensive at the moment because fuel prices are skyrocketing.

However, with a few tips you can save money when refueling.

Kassel - Gasoline prices are rising and reaching for the tap is getting more and more expensive.

This is due, among other things, to rising crude oil prices and the energy tax.

Commuters in particular are dependent on their vehicle and have to dig deep into their wallets for regular refueling.

Since the FDP, as part of a possible traffic light coalition *, calls for the expansion of CO2 emissions trading to include the entire transport sector, the price of fuel could rise even further in the next few months.

With simple tips, however, you will soon be able to make real savings when refueling.

Saving tips: Save money on your wallet when refueling thanks to various apps

As the Rheinische Post reports, on the one hand you should compare the gasoline prices of the various providers.

Although these are more or less based on each other in terms of price, the price varies from petrol station to petrol station.

Although it usually differs by only a few cents, extrapolated to the total amount, several euros can be saved as a result.

To get a better overview of the current fuel prices in the area, the following apps are available:

  • "Clever Tanken" for iOS and Android.

  • "ADAC fuel prices" for iOS and Android.

  • "More fueling" for iOS and Android.

On the other hand, attention should also be paid to the brand of the petrol station.

Free petrol stations are usually particularly cheap compared to large chains such as Shell, Esso or Aral and are therefore a valuable tip.

As a study by the General German Automobile Club (ADAC) shows, the Jet is on average around six cents per liter cheaper than other chains.

Tips for cheaper refueling: the time and place of the gas station are important

In addition, consumers should pay attention to the time when they visit the petrol station.

Most start the day with high prices, which they slowly lower again in the evening.

As a rule, the cheapest time to fill up is between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Even before an upcoming trip by car, drivers should think about when and where they can fill up their vehicle. Basically, it is advisable to make the refueling stop in Germany, as the fuel prices in neighboring countries are often more expensive. According to the ADAC, a liter of diesel costs on average around ten cents in the Netherlands and a liter of super around three cents more than in Germany. In the Czech Republic, however, fuel costs 44 cents less in some cases, which is why many German citizens are currently taking a trip to the neighboring country. At the moment, the prices for refueling * differ considerably from place to place - an expert explains why this is the case.

However, you should avoid filling up at motorway petrol stations.

The prices there are generally much more expensive than in cities or on country roads.

As the ADAC informed, an Agip petrol station on the A5 autobahn demanded 30 cents more per liter in August of this year.

It is therefore always advisable to find out about possible petrol stations and their fuel costs before starting your journey.

Another tip: when buying a car, you can already pay attention to a few points in order to be able to save fuel.

Save money not only when refueling: These tips ensure lower fuel consumption

Saving a small amount on refueling is useful, but ultimately only half the battle.

Because the right tires also play a role in fuel consumption.

As rtl.de reports, up to 5 percent fuel can be saved if the tire pressure is right.

Because less rolling resistance also means lower fuel consumption.

If the tire pressure is just a tick too high, this can in turn increase fuel consumption.

An additional tip is to remove unnecessary weight in and from the car.

Unused roof structures and unnecessary junk in the trunk are nothing but ballast in the long term.

The more weight is carried, the more petrol or diesel the vehicle consumes.

In addition, drivers should always drive with foresight and at low revs, for example by shifting up as early as possible.

In automatic transmissions, the selectable eco mode ensures shorter gearshift intervals and lower speeds, reports rtl.de.

Ultimately, the air conditioning should also be used sparingly, as it also requires fuel and consumes a lot of energy.
