(ANSA) - MOSCOW, OCTOBER 20 - Russia "recognizes" the efforts of the new Afghan administration to "stabilize the situation from a military and political point of view". This was said by Russian Foreign Minister Serghei Lavrov at the talks in Moscow on Afghanistan.
Lavrov also said that Russia says it is "satisfied" with the level of interaction with the new government of Afghanistan but also warned Kabul not to use the country as a "base" for actions against neighboring countries, given that - he added - 'the terrorist groups of the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda try to take advantage of the country's instability'.
Russia also regrets the absence of the United States from the third round of Moscas' consultations on Afghanistan which kicked off at the President Hotel of the Russian capital.
The talks involve representatives from ten countries of the region, as well as a high-level delegation from the Taliban movement (outlawed in Russia).
The Moscow consultations - known as the Moscow format - were launched in 2017 on the basis of a six-party mechanism involving special envoys from Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, China and Pakistan.
