The federal police raided a suspected group of people smugglers in the Saarbrücken area. On behalf of the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office, residential and business premises in twelve locations were searched, as announced by the federal police in Frankfurt am Main. The ten people in total are suspected of having brought Syrians to Germany for money.
According to the investigators, the accused rented vehicles for this purpose and took people with them "sometimes under life-threatening circumstances" on the back of vans.
About 92 people came to Germany in this way, mainly across the Austrian and Czech borders.
The suspects have been investigated since February.
According to the information, 121 federal police officers were involved in the searches.
