Uli Hoeneß was critical of the vegan and vegetarian diet at the weekend.
Now a supermarket chain is taking a stand and poking fun at the former sausage manufacturer.
Munich / Ismaning - Uli Hoeneß grew up as the son of a butcher and seems to stay true to his roots to this day.
At least that's what an interview with
Antenne Bayern
on Sunday suggests, in which he announced that he could not accept a vegan diet.
Has Hoeneß fallen out of time a little?
Now the supermarket chain Rewe is teasing the former FC Bayern manager on Instagram.
Uli Hoeneß on vegan nutrition
"I still accept vegetarian food a bit, vegan at all, because people only get sick in the long run," said Mister FC Bayern Uli Hoeneß in an interview with Katrin Müller-Hohenstein at
Antenne Bayern
on Sunday. At his 70th birthday party there will be a meat buffet, because his guests should "have fun while eating". Vegetarians and vegans are also "militant". He simply doesn't like the alternative diet "because everything is in there that shouldn't be in a Nuremberg sausage, namely stabilizers and flavor enhancers," explained the 69-year-old, who founded his own sausage factory with HoWe Wurstwaren KG Nürnberg. Today his son Florian Hoeneß runs the business.
Hoeneß 'remarks earned him a lot of malice.
Harald Ullmann, second chairman of the animal rights organization PETA, commented in a communication on the subject: “As has been proven in numerous studies, the consumption of meat and milk is closely related to cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.” Ullmann referred to the Heart problems and high blood pressure from Uli Hoeneß and recommended him to eat vegan.
The actress Ursula Karven, also a vegan, joked: "We can also compare the blood values: I mean and Mr. Hoeneß his."
Rewe pokes at Uli Hoeneß
The supermarket chain Rewe seized the opportunity to advertise its vegan product line with a wink.
“Dear Uli, we believe in all forms of nutrition.
That is why we offer you to convince yourself of our range and invite you to choose a few products for your birthday party, ”Rewe wrote in the post on Tuesday.

The idea seems to be well received despite the supermarket's self-promotion, the comments below the post are mostly positive.
Critical voices are only occasionally heard.
"Bye Rewe ... off to Edeka!" Writes one user.
In an interview with
Antenne Bayern
,
Uli Hoeneß wishes
that vegans would give him his “right to eat what I want”.
However, this requirement for tolerance works in both directions.
Anyone who demands tolerance must also show it to others.
The second Peta chairman Ullmann remains optimistic: "More and more people are realizing that a balanced plant-based diet is the best thing they can do for their bodies, animals and our planet - hopefully Mr. Hoeneß will soon be one of them."
