The corona brought with it a host of troubles, bigger and smaller.

One of the side effects that can undoubtedly fall into the category of "trouble of the rich" is the lack of restaurants that serve breakfast.

It took time for restaurants to get back on their feet, the problem of staff shortages is well known, and as a result many restaurants decided to forgo lunch service, and many more restaurants for breakfast.

But in recent weeks something has changed, maybe these are the restaurants that have learned to get along with the existing workforce (and recruit some more workers), the kids who came back to the frames and brought back our Friday mornings are so expensive, and the autumn-winter weather that just demands it - can already be declared - there is a flood Of new brunches.

So in a new section, with the apt name "Breakfast Club" we will review for you every week a breakfast or brunch that is worth getting to know.

Let's start with the first swallow - Dalida.

Dalida's Brunch

Dalida opened in the Lewinsky Market in 2013, and during its years of operation has become one of the most popular restaurants in the city for an evening of drinks with good food.

The food in it is defined as Arab-European cuisine, and we flow with this definition, because it does not seem to us that we will be able to find a better one.

Dalida's brunch started operating in the last two weeks when the restaurant's executive chef Jake Seitovich created together with chef Yogev Yaros a brunch and together with David Kishka, who conducts food tours in the market, a brunch inspired by the Lewinsky market where it is located.

When:

Every Friday from 11:00 to 16:00.

What's the deal:

For NIS 129 per diner, 9 starters and a main course to choose from are served to the table.

You can give up the main and pay 89 shekels per diner just for the starters.

It's weird and nice to see Dalida in daylight, the usually dark inner porch gets warm sunshine, and all the colorfulness and special vintage design of the place, get a different attention, all sorts of details that go unnoticed at night, suddenly get a different life, The music is pleasant and fun, just at the right volume, present but not disturbing.

In honor of the brunch, they also created two great cocktails, which are not included in the price, but definitely bounce the brunch upwards - pink and slightly sweet pink hail (NIS 36) and a great apple sprinkler with fun apple carvings inside (NIS 32).

We settled in, sipped a few sips and the starters came out. All the starters come out together, creating a colorful and fun table, filled with delicious little bites. A plate of breads from the market includes a pretzel from Penso, a saluf from the saluf restaurant and a challah from the "deer". There is a plate of fresh vegetables to balance all the corruption that is to come, a doha oil of khabshush (the great spice shop in the market, and a place worth stocking every time you come to the area) with a tomato paste that is fun to dip bread in, great smoked mackerel and next to it And an onion in hibiscus marinade, a frying tabula with cranberries, a saucer of homemade Yom Tov pickles, an Egyptian bean in olive oil and nahva, and the Dalida flagship dish that has become so identified with the place - a hot pepper brula. This is a dish of brula, salty and not sweet, with a filling of feta cheese and full of chopped hot peppers, with a top crust like that of brula cream, it is a dish that drives the palate (in a good section) in its flavors and textures.

The main chosen - crab borax, in the background an apple sprinkler (Photo: Yael Laor, Yael Laor)

You can choose between six dishes, and there is a division into the right mix of a sweet dish (French toast), a healthy dish (Tunisoise), classic breakfast dishes (shakes or borax with a few fillings to choose from) and dishes that are already more for lunch, for those who frequent the brunch In the later hours (fresh pasta shreds with chunks of fish or minced steak and egg).

We chose one main course of homemade borax from Panso's puff pastry filled with prawns and ricotta (an additional 20 shekels from the brunch price). The choice to share the dish was right, as the first courses, plus the breads completely lined our stomachs, and we were looking to close the corner. The crab borax is a relatively heavy dish and is perfect for distribution, comes round borax, with a good balance of flavors, between the cheese and the crab meat, the taste of the latter is very present and is given generously. Next to the borax comes a small salad, chopped fresh vegetables, with a delicate and good seasoning of pomegranate vinegar, which balances the corruption that occurs on the other side of the plate. The dish is served with a “Cancer Dome” and the borax looks like a bowl of creamed soup, and feels like perfect comfort.

For an additional NIS 36, you can order a dessert of Sammy Pardo Pistachio, a vegan endless layer cake of chocolate and peanut butter or a package of 4 cupcakes from the nearby bakery - Sweetbox.

This is a fun refreshment at the end of the meal, but if you do not feel like adding money, you can always share one main, and go for French toast as a second main which is also a dessert.

Why get up from the chair?

The Bottom Line

Lewinsky Market, despite quite a few changes in recent years, some better and some less, is one of the perfect places for us to spend Friday morning, and in general.

However, turning it into a sidewalk has upgraded it, but it is crowded with people on Fridays.

Dalida's brunch is the perfect solution in this respect, of walking with and feeling without, you can walk through the market, feel the magical atmosphere, then escape from the crowds to Dalida's indoor courtyard, and go on a tasting tour of the market without getting up from the table.
