One day after the discovery of human remains in a nature reserve in the US state of Florida, the FBI confirmed that they could be assigned to the wanted Brian Laundrie.
An examination of the teeth revealed that, the investigators reported.
Laundrie had been searched for weeks in connection with the Gabby Petito murder.
Laundrie and Petito had set off on a trip to the USA together.
At the beginning of September, however, Laundrie had returned to Florida alone, where he lived with Petito.
When Petito's parents reported their daughter missing, the 23-year-old initially refused to testify and eventually disappeared.
He was wanted by an arrest warrant - not directly for Petito's death, but for credit card fraud after the death of his fiancée.
Petito's body was discovered in mid-September in Grand Teton National Park in the state of Wyoming in the western United States.
She was strangled, according to forensic medicine.
