Intermodality and sharing, mobility is like integrated

Intermodality of transport services and sharing mobility are choices on the rise in the cities where people return to move. (HANDLE)

Intermodality of transport services and sharing mobility are choices on the rise in the cities where people return to move.

The reason, explains the first survey since the resumption of activities after the restrictions for Covid-19 made by Ipsos-Legambiente, lies in the policies of limiting the circulation of cars, supporting the offer of public services, reducing space for the parking, dissemination of sharing mobility services (20 in Milan, 15 in Rome).

But it is not for everyone, it is noted, as it does not yet have a capillarity of offer that can satisfy an important portion of the population.

The novelty in sharing mobility are electric scooters: in 2020 the Sharing Mobility Observatory had 120 micromobility services, four out of 10 shared trips, even in the southern regions and in the smaller towns.

According to the survey, 60% of Italians (75% in the main cities) consider an integrated offer (MaaS), a single subscription to public transport, train and sharing mobility services, from scooters to cars, to be relevant. They even like the policies of almost total limitation of the circulation of cars and motorcycles with combustion engines in built-up areas.

According to Legambiente, it is necessary to extend the tax concessions for companies and public employees, now applied for subscriptions to railway and local public transport, to all forms of sustainable mobility such as sharing mobility and shared company electric vehicles: sharing mobility must be subject to the same VAT rate for public transport (10% and not 22%).

City of 15 minutes like it but Italians think unrealistic

. Italians really like the "City of 15 minutes" on foot, with proximity services, and even like the policies of almost total limitation of the circulation of cars and motorcycles with combustion engines in built-up areas. This is what emerges from the first survey of the resumption of activities - after the lockdowns caused by the pandemic - promoted by Legambiente with Ipsos, on a national scale and with a focus on Milan, Turin, Naples and Rome. The Italians have a great attraction towards this project but they think it is unrealistic. Therefore, explained the president of Legambiente Stefano Ciafani, national funding is needed and the municipalities must guarantee citizens to be able to do everything in 15 minutes on foot. It is a challenge for newly elected mayors in big cities, because this project is especially popular in metropolitan areas.
