When going to the supermarket, consumers are threatened with a major price explosion in the coming weeks.

Many popular foods will become more expensive in the future.

Munich - In the last few weeks there have been increasing reports of food price increases.

This has to do with rising inflation on the one hand, and delivery bottlenecks during the corona pandemic on the other.

Especially in the run-up to Christmas, the sums on the receipts are likely to increase.

Supermarkets: price increase for Christmas business

Bottlenecks in the delivery of ingredients also increase production costs for many producers. Noodle manufacturers such as Barilla and Buitoni are to plan price increases of up to 25 percent, reports

. Frozen pizzas, chocolate and detergents are also likely to cost more money in the coming weeks. The customers thus bear the increased costs directly.

Experts expect a price increase in the meat and fish assortment, especially in the weeks before Christmas. Many supermarkets will focus on their cheap meat and thus want to take advantage of the high-turnover time around the holidays. In the coming years, Kaufland intends to switch entirely to products in category 4 and to make the purchase of its cheap products more attractive to customers. Turkey schnitzel, ground beef and mixed minced meat are all likely to become more expensive in December.

But even healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables are not spared from the supposed price increases. In addition to a seasonal price increase for cucumbers and lettuce, customers should also spend more money on classic autumn vegetables (cabbage, potatoes, pumpkins). The poor potato harvest in particular is likely to drive up the price, and even the French fries at the local snack bar would not be spared.

And, according to the Bavarian Brewers' Association, domestic beer is also expected to become more expensive in the foreseeable future.

The reason are cost increases with which the breweries are struggling: "Everything that can become more expensive becomes more expensive, energy, raw materials, transport, personnel," said Managing Director Lothar Ebbertz on request.

Companies are not only affected by the rise in energy costs.

"The prices for brewing barley have gone through the roof in the past few weeks," said Ebbertz.

Apart from that, according to the brewers' association, many other items that breweries depend on have also become more expensive.

“That also applies to little things like crown corks,” said Ebbertz.

High prices: baking is also becoming more expensive

If you still want to bake Christmas cookies in December, you should stick to it.

Here, too, experts expect prices to rise, especially during the last month of the year.

An early purchase could be worth real money here.

The same applies to another important baking ingredient, namely eggs.

Chick shredding will end in January 2022.

This means that male chicks also have to be raised.

The consequence would then be possible price surcharges of up to 6 cents per egg.

A standard pack of 6 could be 36 cents more expensive.
