About 50 flight attendants of Italy's national airline, Alitalia, which recently ceased operations, staged a demonstration outside the city hall in Rome yesterday (Wednesday), during which they stripped off their uniforms and were left with only jumpsuits.
The flight attendants performed the undressing process in a timed manner, all together, as seen in the video documenting the incident.
The flight attendants protested the loss of their jobs, as well as the working conditions of their colleagues who were re-hired by the airline that replaced Alitalia as the Italian flagship company: ITA.
World media reported that when the new ITA company officially began operations last Friday, it employed only 2,800 out of nearly 11,000 staff members.
In addition, the country's trade unions are protesting that the workers transferred to the new company are employed at a significantly lower wage than that given at Alitalia.

"Humiliating contract"
And so, while standing at the top of the city's famous Capitoline Hill, the demonstrators slowly removed their uniforms and shoes, as an act symbolizing their refusal to accept the new situation.
Then, while left with their underwear on, they stood in silence for several minutes.
Afterwards, they shouted together "We are Alitalia!"
A spokesman for the group that demonstrated said that this choreographic protest was intended to show solidarity with colleagues who "had to sign a humiliating contract with the company."
It should be noted that last week, Alitalia Airlines made its last flight, from Rome to Cagliari in Sardinia, bringing to an end a 74-year aviation history.
