(ANSA) - STRASBOURG, OCTOBER 21 - The European Parliament calls for legislation to make the process of research, purchase and distribution of vaccines against Covid-19 more transparent.
In a report adopted with 458 in favor, 149 against and 86 abstentions, MEPs propose that the Eurochamber be given the tools to verify EU vaccine policies more effectively.
To improve the level of transparency in the report, the Commission is required to make public the information on who deals with the vaccine procurement negotiations, publishing the purchase contracts made with suppliers, including details of public investments. MEPs stress that the dissemination of more information would also help to counteract skepticism and misinformation on the issue.
The Eurochamber also insists that future EU vaccine contracts include clauses to increase readiness around the world to help non-European countries also fight the pandemic and speed up the global vaccination process.
"We need to be transparent about how vaccines are developed, purchased and distributed. For the vaccination strategy to be successful, the public must receive more information. This will increase their confidence in vaccines and the Union investment that has brought us free vaccines for all and in time. record".
Thus the rapporteur of the text, the Spanish MEP of the EPP, Dolors Montserrat.
