A woman was killed and a man injured while filming the film "Rust" with Alec Baldwin.
"According to the investigators, it appears that a prop weapon was used in the filming of a scene, which was fired," said the sheriff of Santa Fe, New Mexico on Thursday.
Investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident are still ongoing.
The industry magazine "Deadline" reported that "a leading actor" in the film had fired the gun.
A spokesman for the production company confirmed to the magazine that there had been an "accident" "in which a blank gun revolver was accidentally fired."
According to "Deadline", the woman was hit in the stomach and the man on the shoulder.
The injured woman, a 42-year-old, was flown to the hospital by helicopter, according to the sheriff, but died there from her injuries.
The injured man was taken to another hospital in an ambulance, where he received emergency care.
Alec Baldwin is involved in the filming as co-producer and lead actor.
In the western, he plays Harland Rust, an outlaw who flees the law with his grandson who has been sentenced to death for murder.
The 63-year-old publishes photos from the shooting more often on his Instagram account.
The industry magazine »Variety« also reports on the accident during the shooting.
Accordingly, the victim is the camerawoman Halyna Hutchins.
This has been confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild.
The injured man is said to be director Joel Souza, according to the report.
"Variety" also reports that it was Baldwin who fired the gun.
However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
