From this Sunday, October 24, the Téléfoot magazine on TF1 will be able to resume broadcasting images of Ligue 1. This had not happened for 14 years.
Amazon has in fact agreed to sub-license the rights to the highlights of the matches of the French football championship on the front page.
Amazon has taken over 80% of League 1 matches. In the lot that the e-commerce giant has won, was also the broadcast rights for a magazine on Sunday evening and Sunday morning. Amazon did launch a Sunday night show, but was not using the Sunday morning option. "
We had discussions around these rights, knowing that they were not using them
", explains Julien Millereux, the sports director of the TF1 group. The professional football league (LFP) facilitated the negotiations.
The League, just like Amazon, undoubtedly considered that the unencrypted broadcasting of the highlights of the matches of the championship offered a good exposure to the Ligue 1 product. For Amazon, it is an interesting visibility to gain new subscribers.
For its part, TF1 will be able to strengthen the attractiveness and potentially the audience of its magazine, the first part of which will be renamed "Téléfoot Ligue 1".
Less than a million euros
Cost of the operation for TF1?
"
The amount is below one million euros per season,
" according to a source familiar with the matter.
The front page does not give the volume of minutes it can use.
“
Each program generally contains around forty minutes of video.
With this agreement, we have plenty to deal with and comment on in League 1,
”promises Julien Millereux.
The channel will have extracts from all the matches in the championship, including those broadcast on Canal +.
