While serving everyone without discrimination is one of the fundamentals of the association, in Fréjus, local volunteers have abruptly

In the volunteer charter, the rule is in pole position.

To serve at the Restos du Cœur, you have to commit to respect and solidarity with “all” those in need.

Including the undocumented?

In Fréjus, in the Var, the question is debated.

So much so that all of the fifteen volunteers of the local Restos du Cœur team resigned last week, according to the newspaper Var Matin, because they refuse to serve people in an irregular situation.

They fed about 200 families, in this city to the RN mayor, David Rachline.

The fifteen deny being "racist", despite this decision.

While they are not unaware of the Charter of the Restos du Cœur, among the documents requested to register beneficiaries, there are identity documents, which in essence, undocumented migrants do not have.

"Some have become threatening"

“We welcomed everyone, even the undocumented.

Since we cannot register them, we gave them emergency packages, ”explains Hervé, one of the volunteers who resigned, still in Var Matin.

“Two years ago, some became threatening. A member of our team took a tin can. We had to react. We continued to serve on condition that the migrants were accompanied by the social worker who followed them, ”continues the volunteer. “The illegals and the undocumented are not followed. We had to make the decision to no longer register them, ”he concludes.

For Daniel Ravel, regional delegate for Restos du Cœur, it doesn't matter, the volunteers are breaking the rules.

“We asked them to think carefully about their commitment.

They do not accept this unconditional welcome, (…) they have resigned, ”he explained on BFMTV this Friday.

The activity has been resumed by the officials of a neighboring town, Roquebrune-sur-Argens, according to the local press, to avoid stopping food deliveries, as the winter season approaches.
