(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, 22 OCT - Rainfall in India in the current month was 41% higher than the average for the same period, according to data released yesterday by the IMD, the Indian Meteorological Department.
The state of Uttarakhand, where bad weather caused the deaths of 54 people, experienced rainfall that was five times more intense than normal.
In Kerala, rainfall, which killed more than 40 people, was 445.1 mm while in the past years it had not exceeded 303.4 mm.
Of the country's 694 districts, 45% experienced "much heavier" rains than usual.
