The water rose faster than expected: A family was surprised by a spring tide on Thursday afternoon on a chain of dunes in front of St. Peter-Ording in North Friesland.

The parents with two children and a dog were just out for a walk when the entire beach was flooded within a short time and they couldn't make it back to the pier in time.

The family dialed the emergency number themselves and could be rescued with a rubber dinghy, as the water rescue and emergency aid organization Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft e.

V. announced.

In nearby Westerhever, too, two people could no longer get themselves to safety from the flood when they were trapped by the water on their way to the lighthouse.

They were rescued by helicopter and given medical treatment for hypothermia.

In addition, a person was rescued from the Watt near the North Frisian island of Amrum.
