(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, OCTOBER 22 - The issue of fences and walls at the external borders of the Union is returning to the top of the EU leaders.
The issue was raised by the Lithuanian president, GitanasNauseda, on the sidelines of the summit: "we should also talk about physical barriers at the borders. An extremely necessary short-term measure to manage this crisis" with Belarus, he said.
In recent weeks, Lithuania had signed a letter addressed to the European Commission, together with 11 other partners, asking that Brussels take charge of the financing of the walls. The EU executive had rejected the request to the sender (ANSA).
