(ANSA) - BEIJING, OCTOBER 23 - Less homework and the Internet for children, more recreational activities and physical exercise: China reverses course and passes a new law on the "promotion of family education" to ease school competitiveness which has been exasperated in recent years and the insane expenses for training.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Assembly, the Chinese parliament, has approved legislation that urges parents, among other things, to reduce the heavy burdens of study imposed on their children so far and to work to prevent them from becoming addicted to the web at the same time. The law states that parents or guardians are responsible for the family education of minors and that the state, while local governments are required to take steps to cut homework and out-of-school tutoring.

In the current ultra-competitive Chinese system, already entering an excellent kindergarten represents the launching pad for prestigious elementary schools and so on: the first years of study are considered fundamental by Chinese families and, based on what was explained to ANSA by operators of the industry, preparation can cost $ 4-5,000 under the age of 6, including piano lessons, writing, acting, or even a rope jump.

The new law prohibits parents from imposing an excessive didactic burden on their children, clarifying the need to appropriately organize the time to devote to study and that instead for rest, recreational activities and physical exercise.
