(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 23 - After the green pass, it's time for selective lockdowns: the announcement of a confinement plan limited to unvaccinated only in the event of new peaks of Covid-19 infections comes from Austria.
"We do not see the pandemic in the rearview mirror, we are moving towards an unvaccinated pandemic", since "the majority of ICU patients are not vaccinated", warned the new chancellor Alexander Schallenberg.
A hard line, however, that will start only when the guard threshold of 500 seats occupied in intensive care (25% of those available) is reached, compared to the current 224. At that point, those who are not immunized will no longer be able to access bars, restaurants, events cultural and even sports and creative structures. With 600 seriously hospitalized, the unvaccinated will no longer be able to leave the house except to go to work or for recognized reasons of necessity. "It is not permissible for the health system to be overloaded due to undecided and tenders", warned the Austrian Chancellor, stressing that "it must be clear to the unvaccinated that they are not only responsible for their own health, but also for that of others".
The announcement of the Vienna plan comes while the country is still at the first of five alert levels, the least serious.
But in the last week the infections have increased and from 1 November the compulsory green pass to access the workplace will also be triggered in Austria.
