(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 24 - The tragedy of the war and a smile that snatches away all the horror in an instant. Munzir al-Nazzal is a mutilated father in the Syrian conflict who embraces his son Mustafa, born without legs or arms. The two smile, managing to be happy at least for a moment despite the drama that has enveloped them for a decade, in a spiral of violence and blood that never seems to end.
Munzir and Mustafa were immortalized by the Turkish photographer Mehmet Aslan in a 'photo of the year' shot at the Sienainternational photo awards 2021 which has already been around the world, also ending up on the pages of the authoritative WashingtonPost. "We wanted to bring attention to this" drama, Aslan said, hoping to be able to help the little one in this way.
Her family fled Syria three years ago and now, along with hundreds of thousands of other refugees, are in Turkey's southern border regions.
