(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, OCTOBER 24 - A fire broke out aboard a container ship anchored off the Pacific coast of Canada that carries chemicals and a toxic alarm was issued. The authorities reported this.
The ship, the Zim Kingston, is anchored in the Juan deFuca Strait, south of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, the Canadian Coast Guard said in a note on their website.
"An emergency zone has been set up around the container ship at anchor Zim Kingston," added the same source. "The ship is on fire and emitting poisonous gases," it was stressed.
The container ship carries over 52 tons of chemicals loaded into two of the containers that caught fire.CBC reported citing the Coast Guard.
Ten crew members were evacuated, according to the same sources.
