Many hand-made, colorful blankets filled Piazza del Popolo in Rome for a charity sale, organized by
MAM Beyond Borders
, a voluntary association for social, health and humanitarian support and assistance to vulnerable people.
The blankets, each 1 meter by 1 meter, were created by women from all over Italy for free and with their imagination, and were purchased with a minimum donation.
The proceeds from the initiative - it is the fifth edition of the Covered Beyond the Borders charity event - will be used to support two initiatives:
1. Funding for the SalvaMamme association to support single women and victims of violence, or single mothers in difficulty.
2. A school project in Getche, Ethiopia.
"The Ethiopian government - say the organizers of the initiative - has increased the compulsory school years from fourth to sixth grade. This is very nice. The school, which we have been following for 6 years, will close if we do not expand it with two classrooms to allow for children to get to the sixth grade, to prevent 360 children from being left without education, and without the meal we guarantee, part of the proceeds will go to the construction of the classrooms ".
