Director Joel Souza has spoken about the death of his colleague, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Souza, who was shot while filming the western Rust, told the film website “Deadline”: “I am deeply saddened by the death of my friend and colleague Halyna”. “She was friendly, lively, incredibly talented, has fought over every detail and always encouraged me to give more. ”Souza said his thoughts went with Hutchin's family. He is also grateful for the great sympathy that will help him recover.

On Thursday, actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot Hutchins and injured Souza.

Baldwin hit 42-year-old Hutchins in the chest and Souza, 48, in the shoulder.

The director stood behind the camerawoman.

Hutchins was flown by helicopter to New Mexico University Hospital in Albuquerque, where she succumbed to her injuries.

She leaves behind her husband and a nine year old son.

The Association of International Cinematographers called for donations for Hutchin's family.

Within a day, the donation side raised almost 170,000 US dollars.

Hutchin's husband Matthew wrote on Twitter that Halyna inspired them all with her passion and vision.

Her legacy is too great to put into words.

"Our loss is enormous."

Matthew Hutchins also thanked the American Film Institute for establishing a scholarship on behalf of his late wife.

This is how his wife is remembered and young aspiring camerawomen are supported.

Hundreds of people gathered in Albuquerque Saturday night to commemorate Halyna Hutchins.

According to the Los Angeles Times, many of them belonged to a growing film industry in the US state of New Mexico.

They also discussed the working conditions on the sets.

The "Los Angeles Times" had previously reported that employees had complained about the conditions and the lack of safety precautions on the set.

The newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources, that several members of the camera crew had left the location a few hours before the fatal incident in protest of the working conditions.

Hollywood security protocols were not strictly followed, it said.

According to the New York Times, before the tragic accident on the set, there were already two accidental shots fired from prop weapons.

The police are now concentrating on the gun master and an assistant director.

The 24-year-old armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed was responsible for the misfortune weapon during the shoot.

Assistant director David Halls had handed the gun to Baldwin during rehearsal for a scene with the note that it was a "cold gun" - a gun with no live ammunition.
